Forest School

Meet our Forest School teachers. We have Eleanor who is our Level 3 qualified Forest School Leader. Then we have Xhulja and Anya who are both Level 3 Early Years Practitioners with years of experience but they will also be completing their Level 1 and 2 Forest School training.

A forest school nursery is an early years setting where young children learn and grow through regular, hands-on experiences in nature.

Instead of spending most of the day indoors, children are based outdoors in woodland or natural environments for much of their session, exploring, playing, and learning in all seasons. The approach is child-led, meaning activities are guided by children’s interests, curiosity, and imagination.

What Makes a Forest School Nursery Different?

Outdoor Learning Every Day
Children spend extended time outdoors in natural surroundings, developing confidence, resilience, and a deep connection with nature.

Real Experiences, Real Skills
With trained practitioners, children take part in activities such as den building, woodland crafts, tool use (age-appropriate and supervised), storytelling around the fire circle, nature art, and wildlife exploration.Holistic Development
Forest school supports all areas of early years development:

  • Physical development through climbing, balancing, and exploring uneven terrain

  • Communication and language through shared discovery and storytelling

  • Personal, social, and emotional growth through teamwork, problem-solving, and supported risk-taking

  • Early literacy and numeracy through meaningful, real-world experiences

All-Weather Learning
Children attend in all seasons, learning to embrace changing weather and build resilience. Waterproof clothing and warm layers ensure they are comfortable and safe.
